At last, SeV in Europe!!

So after buying several SeV jackets and other stuff of theirs from the USA and paying a lot for overseas shipping, now I had the chance to upgrade my travel vest (I owned a previous version of this particular model). A couple of things have been noticeably improved: better zippers, and hidden zippers for the two upper front pockets.I am glad that the large backpocket is still present: I often use it to carry magazines and/or A4 paper prints.This vest allows me to everyday carry: two cellphones, earbuds, Nintendo 3DS + a couple of games, backup hard disk, either iPad w/ bluetooth kbd or Amazon Kindle, usb pendrive, usb cable w/ charger, portable toothbrush + toothpaste, normal glasses, reading glasses, an old Sony ICF-SW100 shortwave radio, HP 15c RPN calculator, spare coins, Fenix AAA led flashlight, 4-color pen, emergency plastic rainware, earplugs, a Buff scarf, and some other minor items.Everything is well balanced among the vest's countless pockets.Oh yes.... and there are magnetic pocket closures, which I adore :DWhat I do NOT like? Clear touch plastic inner pockets. I would have preferred some kind of meshed fabric, instead of plastic.All in all this is an incredible garment. For the metaltechnogeek who wants to carry (almost) everything, this is a mandatory purchase. You won't be disappointed!

Delivery: Ordered beige/sand coloured one in medium, on Monday night 7pm, received 36 hours later.Quality: is exceptional, zip and other fittings seem good, with easy-to-grip zip pulls on inside and sleek metal pulls on outside pockets.Very neat stitching and seams. Fabric is a tight weave that feels pleasant, isn't shiny, looks good and drapes well (it's a polyester in and out which I normally dislike, preferring only cotton and wool fabrics, but I'm impressed with this).The mesh lining will be good at helping stay comfortable on warmer days I am sure, when using the vest to it's load carrying capacity - e.g. at the airport or on days out.Style: My first task was to get it accepted by my partner, because this could be considered a bit nerdy after all, but she was impressed with it and agreed she wouldn't cringe if I wore it out with her ;-) With a polo shirt and shorts it could even look a bit trendy, like a puffer/body warmer, but it also wouldn't be out of place on someone in smart trousers and shirt.Design & function: exceeds my expectations (I'm fussy AND an engineer!!!) - the design of the pockets is excellent, very cleverly laid out.I loaded it up with Sony e/reader (in a leather case), Ipod Classic in leather flip case, fat wallet, change, pocket zoom camera in bulky padded case, A6 sized mini filofax notebook, Samsung Galaxy s2, bunch keys and dark glasses and it was still looked OK without looking too lumpy or nerdy (backed up by 'er indoors'). Plenty of pockets not filled, so if you are likely to do so, you may need to consider a larger size (see below).Sizing: I'm approx 12stone, 5'8", 39"chest, and the medium looks a neat fit, not baggy but not tight. With a thick polo shirt and thick sweater I can still do the vest up and it looks good. However if I load it up as above it becomes a little snugg(but OK with only the polo shirt underneath).I've decided to stick with the medium because I'm only going to fully load it up a few times a year (e.g. when travelling) and then will dump most of the contents in hotel room and then carry the few daily essentials day to day. The remainder of the time it will serve as a less hot alternative to a jacket for spring / summer. In Winter I may wear this under a regular shell layer - we'll see.I will certainly consider other ScottVest jackets now I've seen this, and have asked them about extending the UK range, which they have said they are considering while they monitor UK sales of the vest. Otherwise one has to order from the US website and pay the shipping etc. :-(Affiliations to ScotteVest? None.Recommend it? DEFINITELY!

Wear mine all the time. I imported one direct from the US December and have lived in it since - though I did take it off to wash it the other day :-)Seriously, I find this jacket much easier than a shoulder/messenger bag which would be the alternative.I would normally take a large but the xl size works very well for me.Although they are cheaper in the US freight, tax and handling add up to make the UK price competitive to a direct import.
