Great high spec technical product at a bargain price

been researching this item since deciding I needed a higher specification waterproof jacket for the many "wet" weather mountain bike rides I seem to get into these days (great british weather!)Wanted a normal "jacket" as opposed to a bike specific cut jacket which tend to come without the hood unless you pay silly money. Found this in the sports direct shop and it fit okay snug in the arms (may prove tight with a fleece underneath)while a little looser round the chest (that may just be me tho?) the hood is quite large with a permanent "peak" in place, covers my rear when in bike sitting position. It's very vibrant in the electric blue which is perfect for biking (yes mr car driver see me now!!!!!!) and the vents in the large side pockets worked great on my long ride round Dalby forest in the drizzle (for 4 hours) the performance was fantastic as I had started off with a windproof softshell underneath the jacket but ended up swapping that for just baselayer and the jacket. kept me warm and dry (the water just beaded off) on an otherwise cold and damp day (10c) even while resting, it was rather cold setting off but considering my mate was wearing a softshell underneath a non "event" jacket and complained of feeling cold too just put this down to the weather and we soon warmed back up again. After 22 miles I think I've given this a good first innings!! and just flapped it dry in the carpark before stuffing it back in my bag - it wasnt even mucky?(the bike on the other hand was a complete right off!)Now for some downsides, the hood retaining strap is not up to much and does not actually form any sort of collar, the cording used for many of the zips and hood will probably break after a few goes as they are very thin (no better than string?) and they've used "rubber" for the velco straps?? which luckily I don't have to use as the arms are very tapered which makes it awkward to get on an off over gloves. The material is quite stiff causing creases and folds underneath a ruck strap.In summary very happy with the performance of the event material, great in blue, large hood helmet compatible..at nearly £50 cheaper than a bike specific version without the hood I can't complain.update 10/9/12 - coat hook has come loose, DWR coating wore off quite quickly considering amound of use (now reapplied thanks to nikwax) still a great coat now up'ed to 5 starts

This jacket feels to be made to the same standard as the old Karrimor equipment before Sports Direct bought the company. In recent years I think the quality of some equipment from Karrimor dropped but I am please to say the British company appears to be making quality equipment once again.Like with all manufactures they offer a range of products to suit all budgets and the quality will vary depending on the price but with their high end products like this jacket the quality is hard to beat.I bought this to use on the Three peak challenge, it excelled it's self in the harsh conditions it's really breathable due to the eVent technology and managed to keep me perfectly dry in the rain. The fact that there is no storm flaps over the zips concerned me but the waterproof zips did their job in keeping out the rain.I think jacket is really comfortable to wear and completely functional. The hood folds away if desired. It seems to the constructed well and from quality materials and feels really hard wearing.This is supposed to retail at £199.99 and I can believe it looking at the design and quality. I would wear it all the time if I could and I defiantly recommend it.It's a welcome return for good quality Karrimor clothing

eVent is up there with goretex, if not not better. try finding a goretex jacket this cheap?might be cheap in price, but doesnt feel it in quality.very happy with this jacket. got great comments from friends with north face and berghaus. so its up there with the 200 pound + jackets at half the price.ive got to the age now where i think cheap = nasty and avoid anything that is low cost. but this is a rare exception. buy it.
